Friday night at 10:05 Pingree Grove & Countryside was dispatched for a barn fire at 8N854 Rt 47.
On arrival personnel found a converted/added-on-to barn being used as a resale store with a fire on the first floor north side. Due to the fire conditions and heavy fire load in the building, a 2nd alarm was requested.
Multiple lines were deployed for extinguishment and 800 feet of 4 inch supply line was dropped in the driveway to supply water from tenders. The fire was under control at 11:49 with companies still working overhaul and hot spots until 1:45 AM.
Firefighting was hampered by the amount of items (fire load) in the building, the maze inside the building, and with the building being added on to approximately four deferent times. There were also problems getting to areas at the roof line.
Approximately 9,000 gallons of water was used. The Kane County Fire Investigation Team was called to the scene. There were no civilian injuries. Two firefighters were injured, one being transported to the hospital. US Route 47 was closed for about 4 hours.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. During the time, Pingree units were at the Fire, there was an ambulance call that was handled by Mutual Aid departments covering Pingree Grove & Countryside Stations.
