Early this morning (at 2:25am) Pingree Grove & Countryside responded for an accident with injuries at Route 47 and Reinking Road. While en-route to the incident, units were informed that the driver was trapped in the vehicle and needed extrication.

On arrival, companies found a single vehicle accident, with the vehicle off-the-road and one occupant needing extrication. It was also found that the vehicle had hit the electric pole and broke the pole in half with the wires holding the pole from falling down. The vehicle had come to a stop directly under the live electric lines, and the lines were being pulled from both directions and holding up the weight of the broken pole.

Personnel preformed extrication under the stressed, still energized, power lines in a extremely dangerous situation. Once the occupant was removed from the vehicle, medics did a rapid evaluation, and moved the patient to the ambulance.

The scene was turned over to Com-Ed and the patient was transported to the hospital.

Responding for Pingree Grove & Countryside: Engines 1213 & 1216, Medics 1251 & 1254 and Chiefs 1201 & 1202.

Assisting was Hampshire 1411, Pingree Grove Police, Kane County Sheriff and Com-Ed.
